Facebook reaches milestone with 1 billion users in a single day
Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg took to his social media platform on Thursday afternoon to announce a company milestone: for the first time ever, 1 billion people - 1 in every 7 people around the world - logged into the site on a single day.
"When we talk about our financials, we use average numbers, but this is different," he writes. "This was the first time we reached this milestone, and it's just the beginning of connecting the whole world."
Zuckerberg writes that he is proud of the Facebook community and the progress it has made.
"Our community stands for giving every person a voice, for promoting understanding and for including everyone in the opportunities of our modern world," he writes.
In late July, Zuckerberg took to Facebook to announce his wife, Priscilla Chan, was pregnant with a baby girl. He also announced in the post that the couple had suffered three miscarriages prior to getting pregnant.
He said he hoped by sharing his experience it would give people hope and encourage people to be comfortable sharing their stories as well.
"In today's open and connected world, discussing these issues doesn't distance us; it brings us together. It creates understanding and tolerance, and it gives us hope," he wrote.
