Al-Jazeera hit by cyberattack, hacking attempts "across all systems"

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates -- As tensions flare between Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iran and their allies, the Qatar-based satellite news network Al-Jazeera said Thursday it was under cyberattack on "all systems."

The network tweeted about the attack three days after Saudi Arabia and its allies severed ties with Qatar and cut off land, sea and air routes to the Gulf nation.

Al-Jazeera said on its website that its digital properties are under "systematic and continual hacking attempts." The station gave few other details, saying only that its system had not been compromised.

The state-run Qatar TV was also the target of the attack, Qatari officials told CBS News.

Oil-rich Qatar has been at the center of a regional tug-of-war between Iran, on the one hand, and Saudi Arabia and its allies on the other.

The FBI and British authorities are assisting in the investigation into the hack, believing the intrusion to be the work of Russian hackers. Russia has denied the allegation.
